RE: Second Weekend Matchup/ Bracket

I also have the same matchups (with 15 Yale v 18 Elon).

That said, a minor annoyance I've had for years is how teams are arranged on the bracket. I believe it makes most sense to arrange so that if the lowest number seed wins every game, then for each matchup, the lowest number (i.e. home) is on top. So for example, the left side would be:

1
32
16
17
8
25
9
24
4
29
13
20
5
28
12
21

The example posted earlier in this thread has teams strangely-organized - specifically, on the left side:

21
12
28
5

...makes no sense to me. I should stress this has no impact on matchups; just how the bracket is organized.

believe it doesn't come down to runs allowed between duke and wisconsin.

Duke Wisco and T A&M all finished 1-2. A & M allowed 40+ runs, so they are out. Duke beat Wisconsin head to head.

I believe Duke is in. In the case of a three team tie, I believe least runs allowed per inning is not used to determine the winner, it is used to eliminate one team from consideration.

So once you use the least runs allowed calculation, you eliminate Texas A&M and are left with Duke and Wisconsin. At that point you use head to head, and Duke beat Wisconsin.

I'm pretty sure there was a similar situation last year and this was the explanation.

RE: Second Weekend Matchup/ Bracket

From the rules:

quote:

NOTE: Example, Teams A, B, & C finish with the same record at 2-1. They finished with the following RA/I (A: 0.5, B: 1.0, C:1.5). Team C is eliminated from consideration from tie-breaker. Team A defeated Team B, winning head-to-head and wins the group. Team B defeated Team C resulting in them being runner-up.

RA:
TAMU: 9 + 15 + 17 = 41
Duke: 12 + 14 + 8 = 34
Wisconsin: 16 + 2 + 12 = 30
TAMU is eliminated.

Head-to-head:
Duke 12, Wisconsin 8.
Duke advances.

...is how I interpret it.

Yes, you are correct with the tie breakers. Duke advances, Wisconsin out.

You are correct, gojo7gojo. Last year, Northwestern, Dayton and Virginia Tech all finished 2-1. Dayton had the worst runs-allowed-per-defensive-inning average and was eliminated from the three-team tiebreaker. Northwestern beat VT in pod play, so it won the pod, with VT finishing second.

In case anyone wants to see them, all of the relevant documents have been linked from the 2019 Tournament Webpage....including all scores (as best as I could decipher them from photos), pod results/advancing teams, and day 3 schedule & bracket.
