09 Softball Week 1 Look Ahead

And so I'm sitting here on this awesomely bright Sunday between a home inspection report, watching my Orioles get the stuffing knocked out of them, and rocking out to REO Speedwagon's Greatest Hits and I was thinking... how about I blow some time running some numebrs for the upcoming week? Yes, I've missed CAN softball that much.

There are 27 games on the docket for week 1. For argument's sake, let's look at what the final NINJAmetrics from '08 have to say about the games - that being said, I can't do the Duke-Connecticut or Kansas-Purdue game since, well, UConn and the Jayhawks didn't field teams in '08. Full disclaimer here - clearly, the numbers aren't going to be accurate (Stanford is definitely scoring more than 8 runs). Recall that there are some teams that have suffered significant personnel gains and losses... I won't run OR/DR for this season until each team has played two games (since the math behind it yields an undefined number and the universe might explode).

A few potentially good ones (yes, I say this despite the disclaimer) are on the docket. I'd love to go check out Pitt-Penn State - battles between two division winners and bragging rights for the Keystone State are on the line (okay, I'm kind of overemphasizing that second one... but I'm getting mellow - The Click Five just replaced REO on iTunes...). Also, Texas A&M and Georgetown could be fun. Friday, the action's not going to be on the fields - I'm thinking that the eight CAN teams will total $3k in bar tabs that night (to include last season's Coach of the Year - Herr Nubbins and his sweet arsed truck). Hope that they can rally for the party on the 18th.

Team records are listed as overall (regular season). Oh yeah - and I'll try to make this a regular thing, but I've got softball and kickball on Sundays... and the requisite drinking. So we'll see. maybe I'll bring my laptop to the bar?

BTW - for those new folks who are wondering what the hell NINJAmetrics, OR, and DR are, check out the sticky thread in the Stats forum.
